Why visit Florence with a private tour guide?
Florence hands you the masterpieces and keeps the stories. Walk past the palazzo walls in the centre and you’ll start noticing small arched hatches at waist height: buchette del vino, wine windows that noble families used to sell their estate wine straight onto the street from the 1600s. Dozens reopened in 2020 to serve coffee without contact. And that David in Piazza della Signoria? It’s a copy — the original has been in the Accademia since 1873. A licensed official tour guide is the difference between seeing Florence and reading it.
With us you’re always private: your group and your guide, nobody else. You go at your pace, you skip what doesn’t interest you, and if you’d rather not walk in the July heat we put you in a luxury vehicle with a chauffeur. There’s a travel coordinator on call at any hour too. Not sure where to start? The Private Walking Tour of Florence starts at 40€.
Private tours in Florence: what you can do
The Duomo, and the trick behind the dome
Brunelleschi built the largest masonry dome in the world with no central scaffolding — four million bricks laid in a herringbone pattern that holds itself up as it rises. You can only really see how once someone points it out to you. The 4-hour private tour of Florence starts at 90€; on foot alone, the walking tour is 40€.
Duomo · Baptistery · Piazza della Signoria · Santa Croce
Uffizi and Accademia, without losing the afternoon in a queue
Two galleries, two very different problems. The Uffizi is enormous and rewards a planned route; the Accademia is essentially one corridor that ends in the David. The private tour of the Uffizi and the guided tour of the Accademia both start at 60€, with timed entry booked in advance.
Uffizi Gallery · Galleria dell’Accademia · Michelangelo’s David
A full day: Ponte Vecchio, the Oltrarno and the view from above
There were butchers on the Ponte Vecchio until 1593, when the Medici threw them out for the smell — they were crossing above, through the Vasari Corridor — and replaced them with goldsmiths. The full day private tour from 140€ adds the Oltrarno workshops and finishes at Piazzale Michelangelo for the view everyone photographs.
Greve in Chianti · Castellina · Panzano · winery visits
Siena, San Gimignano and the hill towns
Siena’s Piazza del Campo is shaped like a shell because it was built over a Roman marketplace on sloping ground, and the Palio is still run around it twice every summer. Siena and San Gimignano in a day from 130€, or with Chianti added in the full version from 149€. Further south, Montepulciano and Pienza from 159€.
Siena · San Gimignano · Montepulciano · Pienza · Val d’Orcia
Pisa, Lucca, the Cinque Terre — or a whole other city
The Renaissance happened here and an implausible amount of it never left. Nowhere else in Europe packs this much into one square kilometre.
Walkable centre
Flat, compact and mostly closed to traffic: twenty minutes on foot takes you from Santa Maria Novella to Santa Croce, via everything in between.
Food & markets
Bistecca alla fiorentina, ribollita and lampredotto from a street cart — the tripe sandwich is the real local lunch. The Mercato Centrale upstairs is good; the restaurants ringing the Duomo, less so.
Base for getting out
Siena, San Gimignano, Chianti, Pisa, Lucca and the Cinque Terre are all a day trip, and Rome is two hours by train.
Beach & climate
No sea, and the city sits in a basin that traps heat: July and August in the centre are genuinely heavy. The coast is an hour and a half away.
Nightlife & buzz
Aperitivo in Santo Spirito and a student crowd keep the evenings going, but Florence winds down earlier than Rome or Milan.
If it was the density of art that got you, Rome is the next scale up and Venice the strangest variation on the theme. Bologna, forty minutes away by train, gives you the same medieval Italy with almost no queues and arguably the best food in the country.
For the opposite — salt air instead of galleries — the Cinque Terre and the port city of Livorno are both inside a day, and Lake Como swaps Renaissance marble for villas and water.

Frequently asked questions about private tours in Florence
How much does a private tour in Florence cost?
It depends how much you want to fit in. The walking tour starts at 40€ and the 4-hour city tour at 90€. The Uffizi and the Accademia are 60€ each, the full day in Florence 140€. Out of town: Pisa from 60€, Pisa and Lucca from 125€, Siena and San Gimignano from 130€, Chianti from 150€, the Cinque Terre from 170€. Private transfers start at 25€.
Are the Uffizi and Accademia tickets included?
On the tours that visit them, yes — we book the timed entry in advance. In high season those slots go weeks ahead, so the earlier you confirm your dates, the more say you have over the time of day.
What language will the tour be in?
Whichever you pick from English, Spanish, French and Italian. We confirm it in writing when you book.
We’re arriving by cruise ship. Can we see Florence?
Yes — ships call at Livorno, about ninety minutes away, and Florence is the classic day from there. The timings and what actually fits into one call are on our Livorno page.
When’s the best time to come?
April to June and September to October. The city sits in a basin, so July and August are heavy in the middle of the day — we start early and put the galleries at midday. Winter is by far the quietest time in the Uffizi.
Can we change the plan as we go?
That’s what private is for. The Accademia and nothing else, a slow morning in the Oltrarno workshops, or a day that ends at a Chianti winery instead of a museum. Tell us what you want when you ask for a quote.
