Alcatraz was once military and federal prison offshore of San Francisco. You can only access the island with a ferry. The ferry ride is around 15 minutes from Pier 33. We can arrange the tour including the transportation to the Pier 33 by private vehicle, or you can meet your tour guide at Pier 33 to take the ferry to Alcatraz.

Please note that it can be chilly and rainy in Alcatraz. We always recommend bringing a light jacket. 

If you decide to have the tour start from your hotel in San Francisco, you will also enjoy a scenic view of the city including the Fisherman’s Wharf before taking the ferry towards Alcatraz.

If we start off with a private pickup, then we will arrange a small panoramic scenery from your hotel until we arrive to the Pier 33. Depending on where your hotel or pick up location is at, the exact scenery that you will see may vary. We will do our best to have to take a glance at the Golden Gate Bridge and of course Fisherman’s Wharf district. 

After the 15-minute ferry ride, we will arrive to the Island of Alcatraz. Imagine when you are getting off the ferry to is where many prisoners were taken to stay there permanently.
