Honeymoon with friends, a good choice with better destinations

In the last few years, this concept has gained new followers all over the world. We tell you what the trend of celebrating your honeymoon with your closest friends is all about (and the best destinations to try it out). Check out our list of tours to do with your friends here!

This year, all the plans we had to postpone because of the pandemic have come true, and one of the most recurrent is the wedding and honeymoon. But today’s world is different from 2019: new trends emerge, plans change and the need to make up for lost time has given rise to alternatives that were unthinkable a few years ago. One of them is buddymoon.

BUDDYMOON

Buddymooning has only grown in popularity in recent years since Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux had their own ‘buddymoon’ in Bora Bora in 2015. If you were won over by solo travel back in the day, but are still a long way from babymooning, buddymooning involves celebrating your honeymoon with your closest friends, which has several advantages: not only is it cheaper to travel in a group, but you can combine the experience of being a couple with a night out or joint plans.

If you choose this option for your wedding, we recommend the best destinations for this new way of living your honeymoon.

Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico)

The group formed by the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche, located in the Mexican Caribbean, reveals one of the best options for travelling in company. In addition to the paradisiacal beaches of the island of Holbox and Tulum, there are the cenotes, the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá and the fiesta and colonial charm of cities such as Valladolid, Mérida and Izamal. This is the ideal cocktail of experience to enjoy with friends or on your own when you need it – hello Margarita San Som Punta Coco.

India + Maldives

When we travel, combining destinations allows us to combine different interests, scenery and moods, and one of the most fascinating options is the combination of India and the Maldives. The land of the Taj Mahal brings adventure, mystery and an invigorating touch to any friends’ trip through the obligatory Golden Triangle – the cities of Delhi, Agra and Jaipur – while the Maldives is eminently romantic but also, if chosen well, a collaborative trip. There are adult-only resorts, villas for everyone and the chance to meet for dinner or champagne on a yacht at the end of the day.

Las Vegas

Movies such as ‘The Hangover’ immortalise the gambling city and its concept as a bachelor party mecca. But why not travel with friends during Friends Month? This Nevada city, with its casinos and world-class hotels, is the perfect place for another carefree honeymoon, or even, who knows, another unexpected one-night stand. If we wanted to complete the trip, we could add Los Angeles or even consider flying to Hawaii to up the romance without falling into the long shadow of The White Lotus.

Thailand

This Asian country is one of the most popular with honeymooners: the tropical charm of Phi Phi Island, the glamour of Krabi Beach or Turquoise Island. But if we apply the “month of friends” filter, the alternatives include partying with friends in Bangkok’s streets and beach bars, or culminating in mystical experiences with massages and temples in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and other relaxing destinations in northern Thailand.

Sicily (Italy)

If we don’t believe in honeymooning with friends on the other side of the world, we can choose a country closer to home and equally recommendable. It’s too adventurous to suggest Venice or Tuscany for a couple’s trip, so let’s take a drive through ever-exciting Italy to Sicily. Two hire cars, a climb up Mount Etna, a dip in the waters of the fishing village of Cefalù, a stroll around Palermo and succumbing to an aperitivo all in one doesn’t sound so bad, does it?

Costa Rica

Costa Rica exudes adventure, complicity and that sense of intimacy that we can reserve for the most magical corners of the world. The Poas volcano is best done in company, nature invites a relaxing hike in Tortuguero and Santa Teresa, on the Nicoya Peninsula, is well worth staying in a hotel for two while the rest of you surf.
