In the past Bratislava was called Presburg and was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. It was in 1919 that Slovakia became part of the Federation of Czechoslovakia; and the name of its capital changed to Bratislava.

The monumental Bratislava Castle
It is one of the most beautiful buildings that Bratislava exhibits. An imposing castle that dominates the top of a hill and preserves many stories lived in the fifteenth century. The castle was beautifully remodeled after it was razed by a raging fire. It took 150 years for the restoration of its beautiful walls, delicate gardens and imposing gateways leading to exhibitions in the Slovak National Museum to be executed.
San Miguel Gate
Built in 1300, this gate is the oldest building in Bratislava and a silent witness of its medieval past. This gate was also remodeled under the baroque style of the 18th century, which gives it the appearance it has today. In addition, at the foot of St. Michael’s Gate is located the kilometer 0 of Slovakia; from there is measured the distance that exists from the Slovak capital to any other part of the world.
The picturesque streets of Bratislava

This basilica is considered the oldest religious architectural jewel of Bratislava; it dates back to the 13th century. Here the first kings of Hungary and each of their successors were crowned for approximately 300 years. The monument exhibits a golden breastplate on the top of its tower as a witness of a very royal and majestic time. Please note, however, that it is not always open to the public.
Good Shepherd House
A local merchant who lived in the second half of the 18th century built this building. It is located at the foot of the hill where the Bratislava castle stands. The Good Shepherd’s House displays an interesting exhibition of historical clocks. And, being a point of tourist interest, around it have been established several restaurants and cafes, where you can eat very well and at a much more affordable cost than in the center of the capital.
Travel along the Danube by motorboat

Start the coronation route from the castle by following the small golden wreaths strategically positioned on the ground of the city.
