Points of interest and landmarks
The Douro Valley is known as the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world, since 1756. It hosts 3 World Heritage Sites, and it has been declared by National Geographic as one of the 20 top best sustainable tourist destinations in the World.
Your Douro private tour will start driving East until you arrive to Amarante. This beautiful village is located next to the river Tamega. The place is very well known for its local gastronomy and wineries.
After that you will visit Sabrosa, located in the heart of the Douro Valley. You will enjoy amazing landscapes of vineyards when you get deeper in the area. You will also visit the fantastic Village of Pinhao, which has been declared World Heritage. There you will visit the very well known train station and its 24 tiles panel that shows the geography of the Douro Region.
You will drive around the whole Douro Valley and go across the river to the Peso da Regua Village. Along this road, you will visit two of the best wineries in the area.
Situated among the terraces of the valley, the town of Lamego is elegant and infused with Baroque style. This town hosts historical monuments such as a castle, the cathedral of the city and the gorgeous Nossa Senhora dos Remédios Shrine (which receives a big number of pilgrims every year, who climb the 686 steps up to the shrine to pray).
You will then start driving back to Porto. On your way you will do a stop in Mesao Frio. From where you will enjoy a breathtaking, panoramic view of the Douro river and its undulated vineyards settled in the hills of the valley.
