Private guided visit to Museum Island Description

The Museuminsel of Berlin is one of the best art galleries in the whole of Europe. It was declared a World heritage site by the UNESCO in 1999. If you are an art and architecture lover, we strongly recommend you our private museum island tour, Berlin. You will visit, next to a licensed tour guide, the museums you may be interested.

To kick off your tour, we can either arrange a private driver to drive you from your hotel to the museum island. Otherwise, you could meet your guide directly at the museum entrance. If your hotel is located in the center of the city, your guide may also pick you up there.

Like all our tours, this private guided visit to the Museum Island is a tailor made tour. The museums you may visit during your tour are up to you, your guide will adapt the tour to your personal interest. We can also combine this walking tour with a city tour of Berlin. If you are interested, we can also arrange a city tour with driver and guide for the afternoon of the same day, or other day. Get in touch with us for a personalized proposal.

Points of Interests and Landmarks

The museuminsel of Berlin owes its origins to the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century. The whole complex hosts different museums, which were built between 1824 and 1930. Each of the museums was designed in a particular way to establish an organic connection with the art it houses. Expect unique collections of art and cultural artifacts from Europe and the wider Mediterranean region.

The 5 main buildings of the museum are:

  • Altes museum: Built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel from 1823 to 1830, it was the first exhibition building on the Museumsinsel Berlin
  • Neues museum: The second great building on the island. It was constructed by Friedrich August Stüler (Schinkel’s pupil) between 1843 and 1855
  • Alte Nationalgalerie: Is the original home to the Nationalgalerie’s collection. It was built by Friedrich August Stüler.
  • Bode-museum: it was constructed between 1897 and 1904 and was originally named the Kaiser Friedrich-Museum.
  • Pergamonmuseum: It was created as the last of the five large exhibition buildings on the Museumsinsel. Its construction lasted twenty years, from 1910 to 1930

During a 3-hour tour, you may visit 4 of the 5 museums. If you would like a shorter or longer tour, we can also arrange it. All our guides are licensed tour guides, expert in art, culture, and history of Berlin and whole Germany. Enjoy a private museum island tour, Berlin next to a local expert.
