Villefranche-sur-Saône and its Renaissance courtyards
Villefranche-sur-Saône is a small town in the Rhône-Alpes region of France. It is famous for its Renaissance courtyards, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city’s history dates back to Roman times and it was a key trading post during the Middle Ages. The city was also an important center for the Protestant Reformation during the 16th century. Some famous people who have lived in Villefranche include Victor Hugo, Jean Racine and Alexandre Dumas père.
The Renaissance courtyards of Villefranche are one of its most emblematic elements.
Oingt and Beaujolais des Pierres Dorées
The wines of the Beaujolais region are made from the Gamay grape and are some of the most popular wines in France.
The two main wine regions of Beaujolais are Beaujeu-Villages and Oingt, north of Lyon. Wines from these regions tend to be lighter-bodied than those from other parts of France due to the cooler climate.
Mount Brouilly and its views
Mount Brouilly is the highest point of Beaujolais. It is located in the heart of a geological area called “Brouilly” because of its brown soils. The mountain is a granitic intrusion with an altitude of 809 meters.
The views from Mount Brouilly are breathtaking, especially at sunset, when the sun sets behind the mountains and leaves a pinkish hue on the horizon.
Beaujolais wine is well known for its fruity flavor and lightness, which comes from its thin soil and low vineyards.
Hameau Duboeuf, the first oenopark in Beaujolais
Hameau Duboeuf is a wine producer in Beaujolais, France. The company was founded in 1947 by Claude Duboeuf, who is still the president of the company. The Hameau Duboeuf estate covers an area of about 5 hectares and has been classified as an enopark since 2006.
The Hameau Duboeuf estate is located in Saint-Amour, 12 kilometers from the center of Beaujeu, on a hill overlooking the Saône river valley.
