Finland: one of the best destinations with the cleanest air in the world

What could be better than Finland with its beautiful landscapes, warm people and clean air to renew your energy and come back to work completely refreshed?

Enjoying the cold combined with the best landscapes you will ever see in your life should be one of the experiences we are all obliged to live at least once in our lives. That’s why we are going to show you the reasons why Finland is the right destination: the white paradise of endless nature and extraordinary moments in the open air… Aurora borealis, log cabins, unspoilt lakes?

The winter season is just around the corner and few winter destinations offer the magic that Finland can offer. With more than 75% of its territory covered by forests, it is a country that has become a leader in the development of sustainable tourism: Sustainable Travel Finland – Business Finland, which boasts incredible ski resorts and northern lights.

All very beautiful, but… What can we do in Finland that sets it apart from all the other destinations? Well, let’s review it…

FIND OUT WHY FINLAND IS THE HAPPIEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD

It is no coincidence that this year, for the fifth year in a row, Finland has been ranked number one in the United Nations World Happiness Report. There are many reasons for this, but among others, its monumental nature – 40 national parks and 188,000 large lakes – and the amount of outdoor activities have a lot to do with it.

Also the low pollution, the quality of life in its cities, where architecture and design are sublime, not to mention the sauna culture, included in its daily routines, an excellent way to calm the mind and recently declared by Unesco as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

THE REAL HOME OF SANTA CLAUS IS HERE

We don’t promise if you’ll find reindeer or gnomes helping you wrap presents, but in Rovaniemi, in Santa’s village in the Arctic Circle, you’ll see a complex where you can do some shopping you’ll want to take with you in the Lappish craft shops, eat in the restaurants and ride on reindeer sleighs. But first check to see if they’ll leave you any coal this year…

You can stay in log cabins surrounded by spectacular, uncrowded snowy scenery, while the fire warms you from your fireplace and you sample all the local delicacies that can’t be missed on the table. What could be better?

Finnish culture wouldn’t be the same without its saunas and spas, which you can enjoy in an arctic key to end the day. Nor would it be without the beautiful sight of reindeer: the land is full of reindeer farms that you can visit, where the herdsman will tell you a host of stories about how they train for the sleigh, while you savour a cup of coffee or a chocolate in his company.

NOT ONLY SANTA CLAUS, BUT ALSO THE HUSKIES!

Another must-do experience on your big trip to Finland is to drive a sledge like a musher through the snowy forests of Salla, the country’s last great national park and another of its endless white paradises.

Finland is also one of the most enchanting countries for skiing, cross-country skiing through the snowy wilderness or snowshoeing to a frozen lake where the Finns often ice fish, as they have done for centuries.

ACCEPTING LIFE AS IT IS

And if there’s one thing visitors agree on, it’s the Finnish attitude to life, which can be summed up as “accepting life as it is” and “enjoying the little big pleasures”.

But what is unquestionable is that when you return from this great trip you will have recharged your batteries until the next one.
