Private Tours in Córdoba

For a couple of centuries Córdoba was the largest city in Western Europe and one of the most learned anywhere, and the Mezquita is what survives of that. It is a building where a cathedral was dropped into the middle of a mosque, and understanding how that happened — and why the arches are striped — is the difference between a photograph and a visit. Tour Travel & More organises 100% private tours of Córdoba with a licensed official tour guide, tickets arranged and a travel coordinator available 24/7.

The Mezquita and the old town, decoded

Eight hundred and fifty-six columns of jasper, onyx and granite, many of them recycled from Roman and Visigothic buildings, holding up a forest of double arches. In the sixteenth century a Renaissance cathedral was built into the centre of it, and Charles V, who had authorised the work, reportedly regretted it on seeing the result. Your guide walks you through both buildings as one, which is the only way it makes sense.

Patios, flowers and the white lanes

Córdoba's patios are a way of surviving the summer, and they became a UNESCO tradition. Whitewashed walls, a well, and geraniums hung in tiers to cool the air as they are watered. In May the city opens dozens of private courtyards for the patio festival, but a guide can show you the ones that stay open all year, along with the Judería and the Calleja de las Flores.

Medina Azahara, the vanished palace-city

Eight kilometres out, Abd al-Rahman III built an entire capital from scratch in 936, with marble, gold and a court of thousands. It lasted about seventy years before being sacked and then quarried for centuries; it was rediscovered in 1911 and is now UNESCO-listed. Seeing it after the Mezquita gives you the scale of what Córdoba once was.

The Andalusian triangle, door to door

Seville, Granada and Córdoba are the three points people try to combine, and doing it with a private vehicle and chauffeur turns a tight itinerary into a comfortable one. Málaga and the coast are equally close, and your coordinator keeps the timings honest so nobody spends the day watching the clock.

With Tour Travel & More, Córdoba becomes a city you understand rather than one you photograph. Tell us your dates and a travel expert will build your private tour with an official guide and every entry arranged.
