Frederiksborg Castle is a palace complex located in Hillerød, Denmark, built on three islets of Slotssø, “castle lake”, and attached to a large baroque garden. Built by Hans van Steenwinkel as the royal residence of King Christian IV of Denmark between 1560 and 1630, replacing an older castle acquired by Frederick II, in whose honour the building was named, it became the largest Renaissance–style castle in Scandinavia.

Roskilde is a city in Denmark located in the north of the island of Zealand, at the end of the Roskilde Fjord, which is overlooked by a small harbour. Roskilde is also the capital of the municipality of the same name, the largest city in the administrative region of Zealand, with 47,828 inhabitants, and the tenth largest in the country.

Kronborg Castle is located near Elsinore, Denmark. It is one of four Danish cultural World Heritage Sites in 2000, along with Roskilde Cathedral, the runes, burial mounds and church of Jelling and the frozen fjord of Ilulissat.
