Siena and San Gimignano Private Tour Points of Interest

Your private driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel in Florence and take you to Siena and San Gimignano. During this private excursion to Siena and San Gimignano from Florence, you will enjoy its most emblematic sites and great architecture.

You will drive through beautiful landscapes and the Chianti wine area. You will enjoy the breathtaking scenery of one of the most beautiful regions of Italy.

Below we will explain which places you will visit on this private tour and why they are must-see places if you visit Florence:

There are many reasons why the Chianti wine area in Florence is famous. One of the main reasons is that it is a great place to visit and experience Italian culture. Another reason is that it has a rich history and unique vineyards. It is not to be missed.

Monteriggioni Castle is an ancient fortress that was built in the fourteenth century and is located in a strategic position on a hill. It has been used as a prison and as a military base.

The fortress has been well preserved and is still inhabited, making it one of the most famous castles in Italy.

The Palio is a horse race that takes place twice a year in the city of Siena. It is one of the oldest and most famous horse races in the world.

The Palio was originally a competition between the 17 contrade (districts) of the city, which took place on July 2 and August 16, with two different contenders from each district competing against each other. The first race took place in 1260 and since then there have been more than 600 races of the Palio. In 1744, it became an annual event. The Palio is held twice a year: on July 2 to commemorate St. John’s Day and on August 16 to commemorate the Madonna del Monte (the Madonna who protects Siena).

San Gimignano is a small town in the heart of Tuscany, in the region of Toscana. It is surrounded by medieval walls and towers that were built to protect it from invaders.

The town has had a long history and many legends are associated with it. It was once so prosperous that it was said that “no one in San Gimignano had ever seen a poor person”.

In 1348, the Black Death struck San Gimignano and killed almost its entire population. The survivors could not rebuild the town because there were too few of them and they abandoned it. Not to be missed.

The Duomo of Florence is one of the most famous buildings in Italy. It was built in the 1300’s and is located in the center of Florence. The Duomo is a symbol of the city and is what people associate with Florence when they think of it.

Finally, your private driver/guide will take you back to your starting point in Florence. If you are interested, we can arrange entrance to any monument or museum you wish to visit in any of the cities.
